Arsenault's

 

Stephen Patrick Arsenault age 83 of Amherst passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at the East Cumberland Lodge in Pugwash N.S. Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Stephen and Kathleen (Thompson) Arsenault. He was a veteran of WW II where he served as a medic and later with the North Nova Highlanders in Germany, France, Holland and Norway. Stephen was employed at the Salt Mines in Nappan, Labrador NL and later for 25 years with Fort Cumberland Hotel from where he retired. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 10, Amherst. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Stephen is survived by his wife of 54 years the former, Olive Wilson; daughter, Carol (Bruce) Hunter of Amherst, six sons, Andy (Lillian) of Hasting, Freddie (Carol) of Springhill, David (Nancy) of Oxford, George (Darlene) of Missouri, USA, Robert (Noella) and Ricky both of Amherst; sister Theresa (Bill) Legere of Ontario; brother, Logan of Amherst; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; daughters in law, Sandra Parsons and Debbie Arsenault both of Amherst; several nieces, nephews .Stephen was predeceased by his four sisters, Martha, Margaret Arsenault, Annie Arsenault and Lilly Rogers; brothers, Freddie, Roy, John, and Clarence. His remains are resting in Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906) with visiting on Sunday, May 25, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with the Royal Canadian Legion Br.10 tribute service at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. from Campbell's Chapel with Rev. Scott Balsar officiating.  Interment will take place in the Amherst Cemetery. Donations in Stephen's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society or charity of your choice.

CAMERON (Arsenault), Kathy - Amherst, passed away Friday, September 11, 1998, in Highcrest Nursing Home, Springhill. Born in Tidnish, Cumberland Co., she was the granddaughter of the late Joseph and Rhoda Helm. She was a freelance writer who published in numerous newspapers and magazines. She worked in the Amherst Courthouse for 20 years and also worked for several offices in the Halifax area. She enjoyed intellectual conversation with others. She is survived by her husband, James Cameron; daughters, Jane Matthews, Calgary; Patsy (Mrs. Roger Gouchie), Amherst; sons, Phillip Arsenault and wife Tess, Revelstoke, B.C.; Roy Arsenault and wife Theresa, New Glasgow; 10 grandchildren. Funeral service was held September 13 in Campbell's Funeral Home, Amherst, Rev. Allan Griffin officiated. Burial was held in Amherst Cemetery. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice. 

MATTINSON,(Arsenault)Amy Leota - 79, Gables Lodge, Amherst, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 18, 2005, in The Moncton City Hospital.  Born in Mount Pleasant, Cumberland Co., she was a daughter of the late Charles E. and Annie L. (Mills) Mattinson.  She was employed by different people doing housework and spent her lifetime as a homemaker.  She was an adherent of the Baptist Church.  Surviving are daughters, Levedia J. Terris (Barry Wilson), Warren, Cumberland Co.; Shirley A. Sharpe (Steve), Amherst; sons, William L. "Bill" Terris (Patsy), Amherst; Gordon S. Sharpe (Jane), Amherst; grandchildren, Walter, John, Edgar, Greta, Gail, Charles, Amy, Matthew, Patricia, Gary; great-grandchildren, Robbie, John, and Michael; sister, Greta M. Mattinson, Quesnel, B.C.; brother, Charles L. Mattinson (Sheila), Quesnel, B.C.; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was predeceased by husbands, Theodore Terris, Douglas Sharpe, and Roy Arsenault; son, John Terris; sister, Sadie I. Dickie; brothers, Clinton R. Mattinson and Guy M. Mattinson.  Cremation has taken place at the request of the deceased.  Visitation will be held Thursday, April 21, from 12 noon until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m., both in Allen's Funeral Home, 60 Water St., Oxford, Rev. Connie Stewart officiating.  Interment will take place in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.  Donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Canadian Cancer Society.

Alton (Paddy) Bernard Arseneau age 73, of Amherst passed away Thursday, February 10, 2005 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Center, Upper Nappan, N.S. Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late John and Janie (Coster) Arseneau. At the age of 13 he worked at the Salt Plant in Nappan carrying water to the workers. He later worked in the lumber camps at the age of 14 where he was a truck driver and then worked for the railroad in the Folly Mountain area. When Paddy was 17 he started working for Enemal Heating in Amherst where he was employed for 25 years. He also worked for the Town Recreation Department working in the town parks, mowing the lawns and gardening. At the age of 65, Paddy retired from the foundry division of IMP. He had a passion for gardening, he loved hockey and had a very creative mind. Paddy is survived by his wife the former Joyce McCarthy, three daughters Sylvia (David) Thompson of Amherst, Patricia Arseneau (David) and Tracy (John) Tribe both of Brantford, Ont., two sons Kenny (Tammy) and Elton (Denise) both of Amherst, one brother Donald (Olive) of Amherst, grandchildren Kelly, Dawn, Cynthia, Bethany, Christopher, Julie, Jennifer, Lisa, Illyria, Kyle, Ashley, Owen and Noah, great grandchildren Riley, Branden, Colby, Lanya and Hayden and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters Pauline Kelley and Catherine Noiles and one brother Walter. His remains are resting at Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst with visiting on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. from Campbell's Chapel with Rev. Byron Corkum officiating. Interment will take place in the spring in the Amherst Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of Cumberland Regional Health Care Center, VON or the charity of your choice.

Terry Douglas Arsenault age 55 of Amherst passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, November 11, 2005 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, NS. Born in Amherst, he was a son of William John Arsenault and the late Margaret (Gould) Arsenault. Terry was known as the smallest firefighter with the biggest heart and always considered the Fire Department as his 2nd home. He was a volunteer firefighter with No. 3 Company for 13 years in Amherst and was involved with various committees with the Amherst Firefighter Association. Terry received several awards for his dedication and accomplishments in the Department. He will always be remembered for going above and beyond the call of duty. Terry was employed with Enamel Heating for many years and also worked for Amherst Chrysler Dealership and later with Bordertown Pontiac Buick Dealership until his illness. He is survived by his wife the former Marlene (Porter); two sons Jonathan and Jeremy both of Amherst; one daughter Tanya (Jamie Porter) Arsenault of Stewiacke NS; two sisters Gail (Chester) Kaye of Amherst and Karen (Edward) Hambly of Westville NS; four grandchildren Emily, Kristopher, Matthew and Reaghan; several nieces, nephews and all his special brothers from the Fire Department. Besides his mother he was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Winnie and Lloyd Gould and paternal grandparents Mattie and Clarence Arsenault. His remains are resting in Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906) with visiting on Sunday, November 13, 2005 from 6-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 14, 2005 from First Baptist Church, Amherst at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Tonks officiating. Interment will take place in the St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Terry's memory may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses, Amherst or the Palliative Care Unit, Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.

ARSENAULT, Borden Joseph - 73, Amherst, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2007, at home. Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Clarence and Martha (Purdy) Arsenault. Bordie enjoyed spending time at his son's camp and had a passion for hunting, fishing and camping. He taught himself to play the guitar and loved listening to old time music, dancing, his grandchildren and family gatherings. In his earlier years, he enjoyed his CB Radio and recently spent time talking to his family and friends on his computer. Bordie is survived by his son, David (Janet), Brookdale; daughters, Bonnie Arsenault (Michael Green), Fort Lawrence; Cindy (Paul) Allen, Pugwash, and Marlene (Roger) Crossman, Sackville, N.B.; and their mother, Gail; grandchildren, Michael, Jillian, Mark, Amanda, Jason, Matthew, Kristopher, Corey and Bradley; great-grandchildren, Morgan and Logan; special friend, Audrey White, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by brothers, Billy, Pictou; Freddie (Sarah), Truemanville, and Laurie (Cindy), Northport; twin sisters, Rose (Ron) Chapman, Brookdale, and Marie (Dennis) Smith, Ontario. Bordie was predeceased by brothers, Victor and Joe, and sisters, Rita Gates and Kathleen Simpson. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906). Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 21, at 2 p.m. in Campbell's Chapel with Rev. Bob Mack officiating. Interment will take place in Fenwick Cemetery. Donations in Bordie's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Canadian Blood Services.

AMHERST - The death occurred suddenly at her home early Monday of Mrs. Stephen Arsenault, 20 Chamberlain St., Amherst.  She was 76, the former Kathleen Thompson, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Thompson of Amherst.  Although born in Springhill she lived all her adult life in Amherst.  She was a member of the Nativity of Our Lady Roman Catholic Church.  Besides her husband she is survived by four daughters, Lillian (Mrs. Joe Rogers) of Dieppe, N.B., Martha (Mrs. Alex Campbell), Rothesay, N.B., Annie (Mrs. Joe Baoas) of Oakland, California, and Theresa (Mrs. William Leger) of Toronto, four sons, Clarance, Roy, Stephen and Logan, all of Amherst, three sisters, Mrs. John McCarthy and Mrs. Annie Douthwaite, both of Amherst and Mrs. Fred Russell of Saint John, N.B.  Forty one grandchildren and several great grandchildren also survive.  She was predeceased by a son , Frederick, who lost his life overseas in Sicily during World War II.  Funeral Mass will be held from the Nativity of Our Lady R.C. Church this morning.  Interment in Saint Charles Cemetery.

STEPHEN ARSENAULT, 95, Amherst, was buried in St. Charles Cemetery following mass at St. Charles Church.  He was born in Nappan, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Placid Arsenault.  Surviving him are four daughters, Mrs. Martha Campbell, Lancaster, N.B.; Mrs. Lillian Cogers, Dieppe, N.B.; Theresa (Mrs. William Legere), Toronto; and Mrs. Annie Boass, Union City, Calif.; four sons, Clarance, Fenwick; Roy, Amherst; and Logan and Stephen, Upper Nappan; two sisters, Mrs. Nettie Noiles, and Mrs. Minnie Gouchie, and a brother, William, all of Amherst; 48 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

 

ARSENAULT,(Miller) T. Lorene - 92, Pugwash, formerly of Amherst, passed away June 25, 2007, in East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. Born in Middleboro, Cumberland Co., she was a daughter of the late Clinton Russell and Eunice Edna (Bland) Miller. She had worked for many years as a hostess at the Colonial Inn, Amherst. She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of a card club in Amherst. Her life revolved around her cat "Carla". Lorene was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Surviving are her sisters, Jean MacIntosh, Richmond, Cumberland Co.; Myrna (Avon) Bayers, Lawrencetown, Halifax Co.; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Fred Arsenault; brothers, Lawrence and George Miller; nephew, Tony Bayers. There will be no visitation. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, in Mundle's Funeral Home, 204 Water St., Pugwash (243-2506), Mr. Lawrence W. Ross officiating. Burial in Riverside Cemetery, Wallace River. Donations in memory may be made to East Cumberland Lodge or any charity.

ARSENEAULT, Roy Emerson - 89, Amherst, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 1998, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in Nappan, he was a son of the late Stephen and Kathleen (Thompson) Arsenault. He was an outdoorsman and he loved to fish, hunt and trap. He spaded the mud on the Tantramar Marsh Dikes at the age of 11 years. He worked on the Toronto subway for two years and with Enamel EnHeat, Amherst, for several years. He owned a scrap metal and bottle business in Amherst, until retirement. He is survived by daughters, Dorothy Meunier, Moncton, N.B.; Jane Matthews, Calgary; Patsy and husband Roger, Amherst; daughter-in-law, Jan, Ontario; sons, Gordon and wife Betty, Hamilton, Ont.; Doug and wife Audrey, Beamsville, Ont.; Philip and wife Tess, Revelstoke, B.C.; Roy and wife Theresa, New Glasgow; brothers, Stephen, Logan and wife Grace, Amherst; sisters, Martha Cormier, Saint John, N.B.; Theresa Leger, Ontario; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Lillian Rodgers, Annie; brothers, Clarence, Fred, Johnny; son, Logan. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, May 28,  parish prayers 8 p.m. today, both in Campbell's Funeral Home, Amherst. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 29, in Nativity of Our Lady Church, Rev. John Hayes officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery, Amherst.

ARSENAULT, Vilbon "Vic" "Poppy"

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Vilbon, age 74, in Dartmouth General Hospital, on January 26, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Les Iles de la Madeleine (Magdalen Islands), Que., he was a son of the late Gertrude (Lapierre) and Lionel Arseneau. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 44 years, Helen (Gallant); sons, Dan and Rheal, and the joys of his life, granddaughters, Kelsie, Courtlyn, and his grandson, Luc. He is also survived by sisters, Armadine, Patricia (John), Francine, Nicole (Brown); brothers, Real (Noella), Leonce (Helene), Raymond (Helen), Ghislain (Madelaine), Leo-Paul (Martha); several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Jacques. He was a well-respected and proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces (Royal Canadian Navy), retiring in 1984. Based at CFB Shearwater, he saw the world from the decks of the HMCS Bonaventure and HMCS Huron, where, as an aircraft mechanic, he kept many aviators safe with his expertise and attention to detail. He enjoyed woodworking, mechanics, playing guitar, playing cards, and always enjoyed good-natured teasing, for which he was known so well. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Arrangements are under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Thursday, January 29 from 6 - 9 p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, January 30, at 2 p.m. in St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, 1 Kuhn Dr., Dartmouth. Father Ronald Cairns officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will be in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only, by request.
